TRUMP CLOSING BORDERS WITH US NEIGHBORS TO PROTECT THEM FROM TRUMP VIRUS?

I read on the internet that Trump is considering extending closure of the US border with Mexico and Canada. Why? The US at present leads the world in the number of COVID 19 cases. Is he taking pity on our neighbors and wants to protect them from the Trump virus? That doesn't make sense. He has never shown compassion for anyone in the past. It must be political to please his isolationist base who slavishly agree with any crap that vomits out of his mouth.
